About Me:

I’m Jenny Trimble, a registered nurse and nurse educator with over 15 years of experience working with the adult and pediatric population. Certified by the Red Cross in Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED. I’m passionate about teaching real world safety skills in a ways that’s practical, fun, and easy to understand.

I’m also a homeschool mom of two and co-lead a homeschool enrichment program, so I understand the importance of needing a babysitter that is trustworthy, engaging, and knows what to do in an emergency.

This babysitting course is designed to build confidence, responsibility and life saving skills that they can use when caring for siblings, home alone, or out in the world.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

We cover a lot of information during the course and we want every child to succeed. Please contact me BEFORE REGISTERING if there is anything about your child that we should know or if your child needs special accommodations so we can be sure we are at the right facility for your child’s training.

  • This course covers some topics which children may be sensitive to including first aid topics where small amounts of blood may be shown on video and how to handle children throwing up.

  • There is no age that students are automatically ready to babysit. Babysitting is a big responsibility and all tweens and teens need maturity and confidence to take on that responsibility. They also need an interest in caring for children, as well as appropriate training. Finally, it is important that parents of a prospective babysitter agree that their child is ready to take on this responsibility, and be available to support them as needed.

  • There are no prerequisites. In order for participants to receive their certification they must:

    • Attend the full in person session

    • Actively participate in all activities

    • Demonstrate Competency in all required skills

    • Pass all required assessments scenarios (only applies to First Aid/CPR/AED)

  • No exam is given. We just ask for participation and ability to demonstrate competency in skills.

If also taking the Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED portion, that does require passing an exam.

  • Babysitter Certification class is 5.5 hours

Babysitter class + First Aid/CPR/AED (skills session) is 7.5 hours

The Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED portion has an online component that must be completed before the first day of class. Plan for approximately 2 hours.

Printed proof of completion or screen shot of completion will be needed to be able to attend the First Aid/CPR/AED portion of class.

  • Florida does not have a specific state law for minimum legal age for babysitting.

However maturity is crucial. Assess your child’s ability to handle emergencies, emotions and make good decisions.
