This class is designed to prepare youth ages 11-16 to safely and confidently care for children and infants. It includes hands-on activities, videos, and discussions to develop essential, real-life readiness babysitting skills. The course covers feeding, diapering, pick up and holding children, safety, and emergency response.

This class is designed to prepare youth ages 11-16 to safely and confidently care for children and infants. It includes hands-on activities, videos, and discussions to develop essential, real-life readiness babysitting skills. The course covers feeding, diapering, pick up and holding children, safety, and emergency response.

This class is a fun filled and interactive that covers the universal babysitting skills and techniques that every babysitter should have. To help you develop confidence and deliver the care that families need and expect. Below are a few of the topics our courses cover:Basic care for infants and children

What is covered in class?

  • Effective leadership skills

  • How to keep everyone safe

  • Basic child care for children and infants

  • How to perform basic child care skills (e.g,, pick up and holding, bottle feeding, spoon feeding, diapering)

  • Choosing age appropriate activites

  • Recognizing and handling behavioral challenges

  • Emergency action steps: CHECK-CALL-CARE

  • Recognizing and responding to choking emergencies

  • How to peform abdominal thrusts and back blows/chest thrusts for children and infants

  • How to recognize and respond to bleeding emergencies

  • How to apply direct pressure to control external life-threatening bleeding

We want to prepare participants well for emergencies but CPR can be physically demanding and participants should ideally weigh at least 85-90 pounds to participate in this portion of the course. Successful completion awards a 10-year Babysitter’s Training certificate and a 2-year Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED certificate.
